What Does WAP Mean in Cardi B Song

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion really did something whenever they dropped their collab on Friday, Aug. 7. Fans also knew they were in for a treat whenever the duo announced the track on Aug. 4. However, no one could have guessed just how impactful it was actually going to be. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” lyrics are really polarizing, along with some fans praising the lyrics as empowering. However, many others weren’t so thrilling with the song’s message and didn’t find it empowering at all. However, some fans just wanted to know what “WAP” actually means.

Social Media and Pop Culture

From TikTok challenges to YouTube reactions, the users have a lot to say about WAP.

TikTok

As with each and everything else, the WAP song became a challenge for TikTokers in order to capitalize on terms of engagement.

Twitter

Twitter is abuzz along with a wide variety of content, some of which also has entirely moved away from the original theme of the song. But mostly, we actually saw a lot of takes on the song itself.

And the fans could not stop listening to the song all night.

Others, however, didn’t really find the message of the song empowering at all. A lot of fans found the song’s opening lines, “There’s some wh*res in this house,” and its many lyrics about “pleasing” a man sexually, degrading actually.

So not everyone is in agreement about the implications of “WAP,” it’s actually safe to say the tune got everyone talking (and will undoubtedly be a dance floor anthem when is safe to hit the dance floor again) as well.

YouTube

And funny ones just like this reaction video.

Even Trevor Noah chimed in along with a few words on WAP!

WAP is certainly a term that will go down in pop culture eternally. We’re now already seeing it pick up in a lot of places and references that are certainly reflective of the times we live in. It’s not even a word that can apply to casual conversations, it’s not an abbreviation for any activities such as the way LOL or SMH is. But, WAP is not offensive either and it does not demean women in any way actually.

However, the way you guys use the term, the tone along with which you use it, and the context really matter. It’s one thing for WAP to be the means for a woman in order to explore her own sexuality. And an entirely other one is someone who actually uses it to gaslight her or disrespect her as well.
