However, many others weren’t so thrilling with the song’s message and didn’t find it empowering at all. However, some fans just wanted to know what “WAP” actually means.

It’s also safe to say that the censored music video (Cardi B had to release a censored version since the video was considered too inappropriate even via YouTube standards). Still it managed to raise eyebrows across the collective Global psyche for its raunchy nature and also explicit lyrics that focused on female pleasure and sexuality as well.

So the controversy is actually delving not from those who are defiant as much as those who are considering it deviant. Much of the criticism is rooted in the kind of misogyny that also looks at women as demure, non-sexual creatures as well. The idea that women are sexual creatures along with needs is foreign to these folks and the role of women certainly does not extend beyond the conventional ones as well.

Basically, the controversy is stemmed from the age-old narrative of men who actually own their sexual prowess being celebrated. Whereas women who also do the same will be condemned, subject to criticism and backlash as well.

Others, however, didn’t really find the message of the song empowering at all. A lot of fans found the song’s opening lines, “There’s some wh*res in this house,” and its many lyrics about “pleasing” a man sexually, degrading actually.
