How to install TWRP recovery on OnePlus 6T and root the device
Let’s check how to install TWRP first, and then root the OnePlus 6T.
Remember you have unlocked the bootloader of your OnePlus 6T.
Then Download these two files:
- TWRP recovery mentioned above
- Magisk root package
- DM Verity disabler
Also, don’t forget to turn on USB Debugging on your OnePlus 6T device. You might want to re-do it after unlocking the bootloader.
Then connect your mobile OnePlus 6T device to the computer via USB cable that came with it.
Also, move the required or important files to your OnePlus 6T, such as Magisk, TWRP ZIP file, and DM Verity disabler.
Now head over to a command window resides in the folder where you have the TWRP file from above. Also, move to that folder, and then input cmd in the address bar to that folder’s window. Also, press the enter key. A command window opens up, and its location to that folder.
Now Connect your OnePlus 6T device to the computer.
Execute the following command into the command window when we opened above to boot your device into bootloader/fastboot mode:
adb reboot bootloader
└ If you grant a permission dialogue on your mobile OnePlus 6T to “Enable USB debugging”, click OK.
After your OnePlus 6T boots into bootloader mode, execute the command below to install TWRP temporarily or access it right away.
fastboot boot <name of twrp file here>.img
However, the device will reboot to recovery mode and you will then view TWRP recovery right there. Click on the ‘Keep Read Only’ button to do not enable PC changes.
That’s all, successfully you have installed the TWRP recovery temporarily.
Ignore this update for the test build of TWRP] Just install the TWRP permanently:
- You will then view TWRP recovery now. Also, we will install/download the TWRP recovery permanently. Doing this, in TWRP, click on the Install button, and then choose the TWRP ZIP file you moved earlier.
- Now, reboot back to TWRP again. Click on the home button, then tap on the Reboot button, and then click on the Recover button to rebegin the device into TWRP. Now TWRP recovery is installed permanently.
Now it’s time to root your OnePlus 6T device. Then install the magisk file to root device, but if you don’t like to root, you still want to install the DM Verity disabler file to secure the device from bootlooping while initiating to Android from TWRP.
If you want to install, move back to the home screen of TWRP and click on the Install button. Also, choose the Magisk file (or DM verity disabler if you don’t need to root), and then confirm the installation on the next screen.
Note: In this situation, you are re-installing Magisk, remember you initially install the Magisk Uninstaller first, and then Magisk file. It can’t apply to those who are downloading the Magisk first time.
Now Reboot it and your OnePlus 6T will begin to Android. Once you installed Magisk, simply verify root access on your mobile OnePlus 6T using a root checker app.
