How to Fix Two Finger Scroll Not Working

Touchpad gestures are a quick way in order to overcome the limitations found with traditional touchpads. Try the following methods to fix the problem as well.

Before moving to more advanced solutions, it’s really good to check if you’ve enabled the two-finger scroll feature through the Control Panel as well as Windows Settings. When enabled, then you guys can drag two fingers across any part of your touchpad to scroll up and down.

Turn on Two Finger Scroll from Mouse Properties

  • Tap on Windows Key + I to open Settings and then click on the Devices icon.
  • From the left-hand menu tap on Touchpad.
  • Now head to the “Scroll and zoon” section, and make sure to checkmark “Drag two fingers to scroll“.
  • When finished, then just close settings.

OR

  • Tap on Windows Key + R and then type main.cpl and hit Enter to open Mouse Properties.
  • Then switch to the Touchpad tab or Device settings then click on the Settings button.
  • Now under the Properties window, checkmark “Two-Finger Scrolling“.
  • Tap on OK then click Apply followed by OK.
  • Now reboot your PC to save changes.

Roll Back Touchpad Driver

  • Click on Windows Key + R then type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter to open Device Manager.
  • Now expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click on the touchpad device and choose Properties.
  • Switch to the Driver tab and then click on the “Roll Back Driver” button.

Note: If the “Roll Back Driver” button is greyed and then this means you can’t roll back drivers and this method won’t work for you.

  • Tap on Yes to confirm your action, and when the driver rolls back is complete reboot your PC to save changes.

If the “Roll Back Driver” button is greyed then just uninstall the drivers.

  • Head to Device Manager then expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-tap on the touchpad device and choose Properties.
  • Now switch to the Driver tab then click Uninstall.
  • Tap on Uninstall to confirm your actions and when finished, reboot your PC.

After the system restarts, then see if you’re able to Fix Two Finger Scroll Not Working in Windows 10, if not then just continue.

Change the Mouse Pointer

  • Just type control in the Windows Search then click on Control Panel from the search result.
  • Make sure “View by” is set to Category and then tap on Hardware and Sound.

  • From the Scheme, drop-down select any scheme of your choice ex: Windows Black (system scheme) actually.

  • Now just choose to Browse my computer for driver software.
  • Next, choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my pc.
  • Now uncheck “Show compatible hardware” and then choose PS/2 Compatible Mouse from the list and click Next.
  • After the driver is installed, then restart your PC to save changes.

Edit the Windows Registry | Two Finger Scroll Not Working

If you guys have tried the fixes above and your two-finger scrolling feature still won’t work. Then you can edit a Windows Registry key to try and then resolve the problem.

Note: Back up your Registry before using the steps below, as any small error can also damage your computer’s system.

  • Right-tap on Start > Run.
  • Then type regedit in the Run dialog box and click on Enter or choose OK.
  • Then navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\your touch padname
  • Double-tap on the 2FingerTapPluginID and 3FingerTapPluginID keys and then check if the Value Data field is empty.
  • Next, just set the following values in each of these fields:
    • MultiFingerTapFlags: 2 or 3
    • 2FingerTapAction: 2 (right-tap work) or 4 (middle-tap work)
    • 3FingerTapPluginActionID: 0
    • 3FingerTapAction: 4
  • Exit the Windows Registry, then restart your computer, and then check whether the two-finger scroll works again.

Enable Touch Events API

If the two-finger scroll feature isn’t working whenever using the Chrome browser. Turn on the Touch Events API and recheck the two-finger scroll.

  • First, type chrome://flags/ in the Chrome browser address bar.
  • Now search for Touch Events API in the Search flags field.
  • Choose the drop-down menu to the right of the Touch Events API option and choose Enabled.
  • Restart Chrome and then try to use two-finger scroll again.
