Instagram is a very popular app that enables you to share images and videos via friends, family, and followers that aren’t limited to just your mobile or tablet. However, there’s no official app available, we can display you how to use Instagram on a Mac.

The main complaint people have after using Instagram on the Mac is that you can browse pictures, and also like and comment on them. However, you can’t upload photos. So in this guide, here’s a couple of methods that enables you to upload pictures, videos, and carousel posts to Instagram using your Mac.

Insta Experience…

As we know that there’s no official Instagram for Mac app available to download. So social network users have the choice of moving to on a Mac. The basic web app provides you access to your main Instagram feed, enabling you to browse via images and videos that friends have shared as well as liking and commenting.

Instagram also rolled out Stories support shortly after releasing the web app. Also, it enables you to view the temporary posts on a large screen, and in January 2020, the company begins testing support for Direct Messages through the web app. Also, it’s available for a small number of users, but it should be rolled out worldwide soon.

You can’t deny that the Instagram website vastly improved as it was first launched. But still, there’s no alternative way to post pictures or videos either to your feed or to your Instagram Story…

Post On Instagram From Mac -> Upload Images

As you can’t use the standard Instagram website to upload images on a Mac. So there is an alternative way to ‘trick’ Instagram while accessing the site through an iPhone. Also, it enables for image uploads. We’ll discuss how to make Instagram think you are using iPhone so you can upload pictures.

Step 1: Make an Instagram a fool

Initially, before we can fool Instagram into allowing us to upload an image we want to make it think we are in fact using an iPhone.

Step 1:

Head over to Safari and move to Safari > Preferences > Advanced.

Step 2:

Remember to Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar is toggled on.

Step 3:

Then move to the Instagram website and log in to your account.

Step 4:

Then choose Develop (via menu bar) > User Agent > Safari – iOS 12.1.3 – iPhone (or whatever model is the latest).

Now the Instagram website automatically reload and display the mobile model of the site, complete using the upload functionality.

Step 2: Upload images to Instagram via Mac

Now, if you want to use Mac to upload your images then here’s how to:

Step 1:

Initially, click the + icon on the toolbar under your Instagram feed.

Step 2:

Then browse for the pictures you’d like to post. Choose it and tap Choose.

Step 3:

You can also expand the cropped square image after clicking the arrow icon under-left of the image preview. Then click the right icon that enables you to rotate the image.

Step 4:

You can also tap the Filter tab to browse for, and add, a filter to your photo.

Step 5:

After you edited your image and are ready to post, tap Next.

Step 6:

Add a caption, location, and/or tags and now you’re ready to post your feed.

Step 7:

Press Share to upload the image.

Step 3: Upload Image to Instagram Stories using Mac

Step 1:

Choose the Your Story icon located in the top left.

Step 2:

Browse the picture you want to post and double tap or pick Choose.

Step 3:

You’ll then view a preview of the image.

Step 4:

You can also add stamps or write on your image using the tools.

Step 5:

If you want to add text in your image tap on the Aa in the top right. Whatever you write will appear in the middle of the picture once you choose Done.

Step 6:

After you input your text and tap on Add to your story.

Step 7:

If you don’t like to post the picture tap on the X in the top left. You can also select to Keep or Discard the image.

Step 8:

If you are happy with the image tap on Add to your story.

The disadvantage of using this method is to post to Instagram Stories? It works well with Portrait images (landscape gets cropped). Nor you can upload videos this way.

Those are big cons, but there are methods available.

Post On Instagram From Mac -> Upload Images via Vivaldi

Vivaldi is not too much popular Mac app. But you can post pictures to Instagram through Vivaldi without any of the difficulty mentioned above.

Upload Images via Vivaldi

You can also add Mobile as a web panel in Vivaldi and try to use that setting after you visit Instagram.

Here’s how to:

Step 1:

At first, download or install the Vivaldi browser. Keep in mind that you’ve to install version 2.8.

Step 2:

Head over to and log in.

Step 3:

Tap on the + icon in the bar on the left.

Step 4:

You can then view an Instagram URL that will appear in the box at the bottom of Add Web Panel.

Step 5:

Now tap on the Web Panel and a page will open up on the left that displays the Android model of the Instagram website.

Step 6:

According to Vivaldi, you can also tap on the camera icon and add images to your Instagram Story or tap the plus icon to add images to your Instagram feed.

Popular Instagram Apps for Mac

There is a list of third-party Instagram apps available. The apps offer a range of abilities, from being able to browse your feed to checking your alerts to posting photos using Mac onto the social network.

Uplet can’t offer the ability to browse your Instagram feed. But it also offers features that power-users might be interested in. Uplet is a simple and easy app available to download that enables users to drag and drop images & videos and upload them to Instagram in a few seconds – but there’s a lot more.

You can edit each picture and video on Instagram, and also add individual captions to every photo. Also, it provides a crop option featured in the app, enabling users the ability to upload original or square-size images.

While this isn’t for casual users, it enables those Instagram fans to upload various posts all at once. Our only complaint? It supports the latest Instagram multi-photo post choices, although we suppose support will be coming soon.

Bluestacks -> Android Emulator

Alternative method to upload images on Instagram from a Mac is an emulator. However, the most consistent and the best emulators are Bluestacks. The good thing is it is a free Android emulator that you can be downloaded here.

Once installed, you want to set up an Android device. For this, you’ll want a Google account and a Bluestacks account. Also, you wnat to link the two within Bluestacks. Once done, you can simply use the Android emulator to move to the Play Store and download or install Instagram.

After launching the app just goa and sign in to your Instagram account. Then use the app as you like if you were using a mobile device.
