The code execution cannot proceed because C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\MSVCP140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem

Before you guys proceed though, then take note of which app you guys are trying to open whenever you get the above error message.

Re-register DLL files

The error is basically a DLL file that is actually either missing or that the app is unable to find. In most of the cases, re-registering the DLL file can actually fix the problem.

  • First of all, open File Explorer and then navigate to the path given in the error message.
  • Now look for the DLL file that is., MSVCP140.dll.
  • Hold down the Shift key and then right-click the DLL file as well.
  • From the context menu, just choose Copy as Path.
  • Now open Command Prompt with admin rights.
  • Run the following command and then replace the “path and filename of the doll” along with the path to the DLL file that you just copied.
regsvr32 /u "path & filename of dll"
  • Restart your system and then run the app again.

Install or update Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package

If the MSVCP.dll file is not present at the path give in the error message, then the previous method won’t work. Rather, what you have to do is just make sure you have Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package installed, and that it is up-to-date as well.

  • You can visit the official Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package distribution page.
  • Now expand the Other Tools and Frameworks section.
  • You have to download the latest version of the redistribution package.
  • Run the file and permit it to install.
  • When the installation is completerun the app you were trying to open before and it should open as well.

Uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package

It is also possible that you already have Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package install, however, it is corrupt.

  • Just open Control Panel.
  • Then head to Programs>Uninstall a program.
  • Now look for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package, choose it, and then tap on Uninstall.
  • When Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package has uninstalled. Then just visit the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package page, and also download the latest version as well.
  • Install it, and then restart the system too.
  • Now open the app you were trying to open before, and it will open.

Reinstall the app

Well, installing and updating Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package and also re-registering the DLL file won’t really work if the app. That you guys are trying to open is corrupt. This can happen during updates or if you guys get a BSOD or the app actually crashes while it’s in use.

  • Uninstall the app that is actually giving the error; open Control Panel and head to Programs>Uninstall a program.
  • Now look for the app, choose it, and tap on Uninstall.
  • When the app has uninstalled, then just download it again.
  • Then install the app, and restart the system as well.
  • Run the app and then it will open.
