The recently introduced iPhone XS was tested in Speedometer 2.0, a popular browser-based benchmark that simulates human activity. The result was incredible: the browser in the new version outperformed not only the analogs in all existing smartphones on iOS and Android, but even surpassed the web browser in the productive computer iMac Pro (2017) based on the ten-core Intel Core Xeon W with a clock frequency of 3 GHz. This was reported in his Twitter, David Heinemeyer Hansson (David Heinemeier Hansson) – a famous Danish programmer who created the popular web framework Ruby on Rails and the project Instiki Wiki.
Browser Safari in the iPhone XS scored in the synthetic test Speedometer 2.0 as much as 128 points. For comparison, iMac Pro (2017) with Intel Core Xeon W (3 GHz) received in this benchmark “only” 119 points.
Naturally, Speedometer 2.0 rated other smartphones much worse:
- iPhone X / 8 – 86 points.
- iPhone 7 – 56 points.
- iPhone 6s – 43 points.
- Smartphones on the Snapdragon 845 processor (not listed in the David table) – 43 points.
- Galaxy S9 on the Exynos 9810 processor (not listed in the David table) – 42.5 points.
- Google Pixel 2 XL (not listed in the table of David) – 31 points.
- Galaxy S8 + – 29 points.
Apple has managed to significantly (by 45%) improve browser performance with the new A12 Bionic processor. Hansson was amazed at the result of the iPhone XS test and wrote the following:
“Check [the browser in] the iPhone XS twice as fast as [the web browser in] the top version of the regular (not Pro) MacBook that is currently available. The A12 chipset simply destroys the processor from Intel [with a clock speed of] 1.4 [GHz]. It is extremely amazing that Apple could make such a chipset. Equip the upcoming [computers] Mac with the A13 processor !! “
