If you guys are facing some issues along with your printer. Then generally restarting the printer can pretty much fix most of these issues actually. However, if your printer is offline even after being fully connected to the PC then this issue can’t be fixed via a simple restart. Users are also complaining that they can’t use the printer since their printer is offline even though their printer is ON. Just connect to the PC and fully operational. If your printer is not really working, or the print command doesn’t really seem to respond then you can also check if your device status is offline or not. To verify this, just tap on Windows Key + R then type control printers and click on Enter. Or you guys could navigate to the Devices and Printers in Control Panel then just select the desired printer and under the ribbon, at the bottom, you guys will see something like this “Status: Offline”. If this is actually the case then your printer is offline and until you guys resolve this issue the printer won’t work.

Check Printer Connection

Before doing anything, first, you guys should check if the communication between the printer & PC is properly set up actually. There can also be something wrong with the USB cable as well as USB port, or network connection if connected wirelessly.

  • Shut down your PC and also power off your printer. Then remove all the cables connected to the printer (even the power cable) and then tap & hold the power button of the printer for 30 seconds.
  • Now again connect all the cables and then make sure the USB cable from the printer is properly connected to the USB port of the PC as well. You guys could also switch the USB port in order to see if this resolves the problem.
  • If your PC is connected through an Ethernet port then just make sure the Ethernet port is working and the connection to your printer & PC is proper as well.

Run Printer Troubleshooter

  • You have to type “troubleshooting” in Control Panel and then click on Troubleshooting from the search result.
  • Next, from the left window pane, then choose View all.

  • Then, navigate to your printers manufacturer’s website, just download and install the latest printer drivers from the website as well.

For example, in case you guys have an HP printer then you have to visit HP Software and Drivers Downloads page. Where you guys can easily download the latest drivers for your HP printer.

  • If you guys are still not able to fix Printer Offline Status then you can also use the printer software that came with your printer. Most of the time, these utilities can detect the printer on the network and fix any issues that are actually causing the printer to appear offline.

For example, you can also use HP Print and Scan Doctor in order to fix any issues regarding HP Printer.

Add a Second Printer

NOTE: This method will only work if your printer is connected through a network to the PC (rather than the USB cable).

  • Tap on Windows Key + I to open Settings and then click on Devices.
  • From the left-hand menu, just tap on “Bluetooth & other devices“.
  • Now from the right window pane, click on “Devices and printers“.
  • Then right-click on your printer and choose Printer properties from the context menu.
  • Now switch to Ports tab and then click on the “Add Port…” button.
  • Choose “Standard TCP/IP Port” under Available port types and then tap on New Port button.
  • Then on the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard, tap on Next.
  • Now type in the Printers IP Address and Port name and then tap on Next.

Note: You guys could easily find the IP address of your printer on the device itself. Or you could also find these details on the manual that came along with the printer.

  • When you successfully added the Standard TCP/IP Printer, tap on Finish.

Printer Offline Status

Note: You have to make sure your printer is connected to the PC via USB, ethernet as well as wirelessly.

  • Tap on the “Add a printer” button that is under Device and Printers window.
  • Windows will automatically detect the printer, then choose your printer and click Next.
  • Now set your printer as default and tap on Finish.
