The FTP and even NFS share from the comfort of a web browser. Also, thanks to the OMV Extras project. A Plex Media Server can also now set up with ease as well. You have to get Plex working, then you need to install the Plex plugin on Open Media Vault.

How To Install OMV Extras _open media vault plex

A Plex Integration into the Open Media Vault is not possible. This is without the OMV Extras third-party software repository. Now, there are multiple ways to install it. Also, the easiest way to install the Extras repo is from the web interface. A Start off is just by opening a web browser and also logging into OMV. This will also open up a second browser tab and then download the OMV Extras plugin file.

You just have to remember that there are three different downloads. It depends on what version of OpenMediaVault are you using. Using this tutorial, we will be working with version 3.0 the latest stable version. Also, the download page will select the link next to “For OMV 3.x (Erasmus)”. Then download the Debian package file. If you have got it downloaded then return it to the OMV web interface and then click on “Plugins” in the side-bar menu.

Steps:

You have To start the installation, then click on the “upload” button. Then browse this for open media vault-omv extras org_latest_all3.deb. Now, Let the package upload. If the process completes, then scroll down the plugin list. So, all the way to the bottom and also look for “open media vault-omv extras org”. Then click on the box next to it to enable it.

Now, After selecting it in the checkbox. You have to move back to the top of the plugin list. Then click on “Install”. You have to install the plugin into OpenMediaVault. So, As you click install, then OpenMediaVault will also ask you for confirmation. Also, the confirmation says “do you really want to install the selected plugin(s)?” Then Click on the “yes” button to continue. After that, The OMV installation tool is also automated inside of the Web UI. There are no passwords that are required.

To Install OMV Extras Via Terminal _open media vault plex:

In case, if you would rather install the OMV Extras plugin in the terminal. Then there is a script installer. You have To use it, an SSH into your OMV machine, and also gain root access. This is From there, and also run this command:

wget -O - https://omv-extras.org/install | bash

You have to follow the prompts on the screen to fully enable the third-party software repositories.

To Install Plex Plugin On OpenMediaVault:

If the Plex Plugin can only be install then the OMV Extras software repository is working. Although an OMV Extras only makes Plex available, it doesn’t distribute it. You have To get Plex, to re-load the OMV Web UI. So, After the refresh, you have to look at the side-bar menu for “OMV-Extras” that is underneath plugins. You have to click on it, and then look for “Plexmediaserver repo”. Now, This repo is required to enable Plex.

After that, click on the slider button that is next to “Plexmediaserver” and then enable it. You have to click on the “Apply” if it appears to refresh OMV’s software sources. Now, With the repo working, You have to click on “Plugins” in the side-bar menu again. This will also look for “Plex” and click the checkbox next to it to select it. After that scroll up and then click on the “Install” button. Then finally install the Plex plugin on OpenMediaVault.

How To Configure Plex Plugin?

So, that the Plex is also a part of Open Media Vault. Then it will have a dedicated menu entry. Now, Go to it just by looking under “Services” for “PlexMediaServer”. Now, The very first step is to set up Plex on OMV. You have to enable the service in the Web UI. After that, the Plex Media Center menu also looks for “enable” and then click on the slider next to it to turn it on.

A Plex is also active on OMV. Then You will now need to specify a hard drive for it to run on. You have to Please take note that OMV is a NAS operating system. So, you will not let users put share files on the same hard drive that the OS is on. You have to ensure that you have already got a second hard drive (or dedicated data partition set up).

In case, if not then click on “Shared Folders” in the side-bar and then set one up manually. You have to specify a database volume and then click on the drop-down menu. Also, select an available hard drive. This is also Done just by setting up the database? Then click on the “save”.

How To Set Up?

So, at this stage in the process. A Plex is also ready to be configured. This is Even it was also unconventionally installed. The Plex is also available on the OpenMediaVault that will follow the same instructions. You have to Open up a web browser.

This is not sure what the IP address is of your OMV server is? You have To figure it out, to use SSH and log in. This should also show a prompt right away listing the IP address. On the other hand,  also run this command in the console:

ip addr show | grep "inet 192.168"

Then an ip address command will reveal your local IP address.
