NatGeo’s Director of Podcasts: Help Bolster Original Podcast Plans

Apple reportedly hires NatGeo’s Director of Podcasts to help bolster original podcast plans

Apple reportedly hires NatGeo’s Director of Podcasts: Apple can’t ignore podcasts by any stretch of the imagination. Serving as one of the biggest platforms to get podcasts out there into the world and the listener’s ears.

Apple has Apple TV+ as it is a video streaming service completely devoted to the original content. This week a new report from Inside states that Apple has made an interesting hire to help with that plan.

According to the report:

Apple hires Emily Ochsenschlager, a former reporter/producer for National Public Radio (NPR). Currently, Apple still considers the Director of Podcasts for National Geographic. The report states that this is just “the first of many [content hires] for them in the coming weeks”.

As it stands right now, Ochsenschlager has not confirmed the initial report, so, for now, it’s all unofficial.

If you’ll recall, a Bloomberg report then Apple was working out the twist in a grand plan to bankroll and product original podcasts at some point in the future. Back then, according to another report Apple had been in contact with creators and media companies to purchase exclusive rights to podcasts.

The case remains to be seen. Apple remains quiet on the matter over the last few months, and it doesn’t seem like we’ll be getting an announcement about original podcasts soon. However, if the hire of Ochsenschlager is indeed the real deal, then sometimes this is a strong indication that this is a future goal of Apple’s that’s still very much on the table.

Is this helpful? Do you think Apple should be putting any amount of attention on releasing original podcasts? What are your views? Don’t forget to share your views with us in the comment section below.
