The company again states that the standard Windows 10 browser is faster than popular competitors. Tests show the opposite.

As you know, Microsoft likes to embellish the merits of its products, especially the browser Edge, designed from the ground up for Windows 10. The software giant is always willing to tell and show how much faster than its competitors, while the results of such tests look at times too surprising. Once again, a new study showed that Edge is the fastest browser among the leaders of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. However, there is one serious nuance – this is not true.

Microsoft Edge

According to the updated Microsoft Edge homepage on the official Microsoft website, the browser received the highest speed rating in the benchmark Apple Jetstream 1.1 – 186 points. The results of browsers from Google and Mozilla in comparison with him, obviously, are far from perfect: 144 points for Chrome and 157 points for Firefox. Thus, according to the company, Edge is 29% faster than Chrome and 19% faster than Firefox, while competitors are 22% and 16% respectively slower. For all three browsers, the test was performed on a single PC running Windows 10 April 2018 Update (build 17134).

It is noteworthy that when testing the latest versions of browsers in the modern benchmark Speedometer 2.0 (update from 2018), Microsoft Edge turned out to be completely opposite to the outdated Apple Jetstream 1.1 (update from 2015). On a powerful PC with an Intel Core i7-6950X processor, Microsoft’s browser was about 35% slower than Chrome and Opera, and about 22% slower than Firefox. Moreover, on a mid-level PC (specifications are not specified) Edge worked even slower: 40% compared to Chrome and Opera, and the same 22% compared to Firefox.

The developers of benchmarks note that Microsoft Edge has an advantage in terms of autonomy, but in terms of speed, it is inferior to popular competitors.
