Using Google Settings

Initially, Open the Settings app and click on ‘Accounts’.

Choose ‘Account Services’.
Note: If you have various Google accounts, choose your required Google account from the drop-down menu.
Click on ‘Contacts Sync’ on the next screen.
Next, choose ‘Manage Settings’ under ‘Back up & sync device contacts’.
Simply toggle on the ‘Automatically backup and sync device contacts’ choice and you are good to go.
Now your device should automatically recover its contacts to your Google account whenever it is connected to Wifi.
Note: The contacts in your sim cards can’t synced to your Google account.
For Google Contacts app
Note: If you don’t have the Google Contacts app installed on your phone, you can install it from the Play Store, and then you can follow this article as well.
Head over to the Contacts app and click the ‘Menu icon’ in the top left-hand corner. Choose ‘Settings’.
Note: Remember you have updated the Google Contacts app to the new version and remember that it is higher than 3.18.
Click on ‘Contact Sync Settings’.
However, if you are signed in to a single Google ID on your device then the app will take you to the next screen. But if you have various IDs on your device. Now it’s the time to choose which Google id you like to save your contacts on.
Choose ‘Manage Settings’ under ‘Back Up & Sync Device Contacts’.
Also, just turn on the toggle for ‘Automatically backup and sync device contacts’.
Now your contacts will be synced to your Google account whenever you are connected to the internet.
Why back up device contacts to Google
In a given time interval it take time to add contacts manually again. However, this helps to keep your contacts synced to the cloud. As it can restore later from any device connected to the internet. Also, if you have an offline recovery of your contacts, saving contacts online into your Google account is highly recommended. It just because Google enables you to recover contacts also if you lose them (delete, even).
