Twitter is cracking open the gate to character limits on tweets. Nope, you can’t post essays now – text ones, anyway. But, thanks to a new update, you can also now record an audio message and attach it to your tweet. Twitter announced a new feature that is called Audio Tweets recently that allows you to record and send audio as a tweet. You can record only for 140 seconds but what if you want to record for more than 140 seconds? In this article, we are going to talk about How to Record a Longer Voice Tweet. Let’s begin!

Well, Twitter actually realized that this already and has sneaked in a good feature that will split your audio tweet. That is longer than 140 seconds into multiple tweets. Here is how you can do that.

What are Voice Tweets

Voice tweets, or tweets with audio, are actually a new composing feature available first for users of the Twitter for iOS application.

They are basically a more creative way to express your thoughts, without even having to manually type it all out or be constrained by a character limit. “Sometimes 280 characters are not enough and also some conversational intonation are lost in translation,” Twitter announced. “We are also testing a new feature that will actually add a more human touch to the way we use Twitter – your very own voice.”

Voice tweets can also be considered an accessibility feature for the blind or many others who find it difficult to either see or type tweets the normal way. But, those who are deaf or hearing-impaired might not be able to access these new voice tweets actually. When asked how Twitter plans to meet the needs of all people along with different abilities,.It told The Verge that this is a test and it is still “exploring” its solutions.

You can also attach your desired voice message along with your tweets which not only gives a more personalized touch to your message but also helps other users get on board with you. Twitter has introduced this new feature in an attempt in order to help users to communicate with each other more interestingly with a human touch.

Record a Voice Tweet

Twitter has a world-famous restriction on the number of its characters. That can be used in just a single tweet which not only helps its users get to the point as soon as possible but also helps to promote creativity.

Naturally, the company has also imposed a 140s restriction on its new voice tweets feature as well. But thankfully the company allows you to bypass this limit from within the application itself. Let us now take a look at how you can record longer voice tweets on Twitter. Have a look!

If you have access to it, then you will see a new waveform icon (next to the camera icon) whenever composing a new tweet. Tap it and then click the red record button that shows up to start recording your own voice tweet. Each voice tweet captures more than 140 seconds of audio. When you reach the time limit for a tweet, a new voice tweet will automatically start and then it creates a tweet thread for you to post.

You can also attach voice tweets to regular tweets, which basically means you can give your audio message a text caption. But Twitter said voice tweets can only add to original tweets at this point. In other words, you cannot actually include them in replies or retweets with a comment.

  • Open the Twitter application on your iOS device (coming to Android, soon) and then click on the ‘Compose‘ icon to start composing your tweet.
  • You will now see a new icon above your keyboard that actually resembles wavelengths. This is the new voice tweet icon, you need to click on it to record your voice tweet.
  • This will then take you to the recording screen. Then click on the ‘Record‘ button to initiate a recording.
  • Now continue recording your tweet for as long as you want. Twitter will automatically bypass the 140s limit and then attach your recording to a new tweet.
  • When you do that, then tap on ‘Done‘ at the bottom of your screen.
  • Make the necessary final changes to your tweet on the compose screen and then click ‘Tweet‘ to send your recording out into the world.
  • You will now have easily bypassed the time restriction that is set by Twitter on its voice tweets.

Listen to a voice tweet

You will now be able to easily spot a voice tweet in your feed. It actually shows up as an audio clip with the sharer’s profile picture as the background. It will add “Your current profile photo as a static image on your audio attachment and it will not refresh if you update your profile photo,” Twitter said.

You can also listen to your own voice tweets by tapping the play button. On your iOS device, a player dock will show so you can listen to voice tweets in the background. And then continue scrolling via your feed or switch to another app.

The maximum length for a single voice tweet on Twitter?

Twitter actually allows you to thread up to 25 tweets in a single voice tweet. This means that you can record up to 58 mins and 20 seconds in a single voice tweet as each tweet amounts to 2 minutes and 20 seconds as well. This means that you can send more than an hour-long conversation in a single tweet. That will help you to solve any restriction that was impose on your voice tweets earlier.
