Use your device volume in Discord
With your device’s volume controls is probably the most obvious way in order to turn Discord volume up or down. The downside here is that it will also control games, apps, music, or also whatever else you guys re using on your device at the same time. Nevertheless, it’s an easy way in order to make Discord quieter or louder without even having to do anything else.
- You can use the volume slider on a phone or tablet.
- Also, use the volume button on your computer’s desktop.
- Use a hardware volume control on any speakers or also surround sound setup on your console or computer.
This isn’t ideal because it controls every audio output on your device but is the fastest way in order to mute or make Discord louder.
Voice and Video settings
You can turn Discord volume up or down within Voice & Video in your user settings actually. This is basically the next easiest way in order to manage volume and will be set across many servers and channels.
on desktop:
- Choose the gear icon next to your username in Discord.
- Select Voice & Video from the left menu as well.
- You can also change the input and output volume as desired.
on mobile:
- Select the User icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Now under app settings select a voice.
- You can change the input and output volume as you want.
This will make straightforward changes to your mic and audio output volume relying on what you set.
Control user volume in Discord
One really neat feature of Discord is being able to make individuals louder or quieter. This is a very useful setting if your server has specifically helpful folks or members you want to listen to more than others. You guys can make that individuals feed louder than anyone else’s so that they will always be heard above the general chatter of a server.
- You have to choose the user from the right pane in Discord.
- Right-tap on their name.
- Also, use the User Volume slider to make them louder or quieter.
That control is on a per-user basis. You can also make this change for each and every single user on your server. However, it’s only good for that session. As soon as you guys log out or they log out, the setting resets. It is useful to know though actually.
Muting channels in Discord
If you guys are in a particularly lively channel and have to concentrate on something for a while. Then you can either use Do Not Disturb or mute the channel. Along with mute, you will still see the text chat moving and folks will still be voice chatting. However, you won’t hear anything. This is really useful if you are taking a call, talking to someone else, or just need momentary quiet actually.
on desktop:
- Choose the channel you want to mute from the left pane in Discord.
- Right-tap on the channel and choose Mute #channelname.
on mobile:
- You have to select the channel and long press on it.
- Select Mute Channel as well.
You would obviously see the channel’s real name instead of the channel name but the end result is the same as well. The channel will suddenly go quiet until you guys unmute the channel actually.
Using Deafen in Discord
Deafen is really strange nomenclature and is one of those little things that annoy me more than it should. It isn’t a feature that emits a loud noise or whistle in order to deafen other users. It’s a mute button that shuts off all audio from Discord to your device as well. It’s also the same as setting your device in order to mute and turns off all sound.
It’s a setting activated via the headphone icon through your username at the bottom of the server pane. You guys will see a microphone that you use in order to stop people from hearing your mic. The headphones stop all audio from reaching your speakers or headphones as well.
Be a Priority Speaker in Discord
The final way in order to turn Discord volume up or down is to make yourself a Priority Speaker. This isn’t technically a way to change the volume, however, is a way to make sure you are heard. You need admin permissions in order to make this work but it can be useful on occasion.
- First, just choose the server you want to be Priority Speaker for.
- Select Server Settings and then Roles as well.
- Now scroll down to Priority Speaker and toggle it to on.
You can use the privilege sparingly as it can quickly irritate your members. Use the Push to Talk key in order to make yourself heard when quietening others on your server. Now save it for when you really need it though!
