Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) to Resolve the Black Display on Boot

When the Mac boots into the black screen, input the password you like to use to login to the Mac as usual

Step 2:

Press the Return key

Disable Automatic Graphics Switching

Some MacBook Pro version has dual graphics cards that automatically switch. For some reason, those versions can certainly boot directly to a black screen. Often this can be remedied by just turning off automatic graphics card (GPU) switching on MacBook Pro as mentioned here:

Step 1:

From the Apple menu select “System Preferences” then head over to “Energy Saver”

Step 2:

Toggle the switch located next to ‘Automatic Graphics Switching’ to disable it.

Step 3:

Then restart the Mac.
