The control of Apple TV is an essential accessory to use this device, so it is important to solve any problems that may arise. A few days ago I ran into one of them and that is why we are going to see how to solve it. Let’s see what we can do when the Apple TV remote does not respond.

Types of controls for Apple TV

Over the years, Apple has sold five different generations of Apple TV. It is very possible that you still have one of the oldest models, so we will distinguish which is which to know how to solve the problem.

Apple TV Controller

  • The control of the original Apple TV launched in 2007. The most distinctive of this model is that it is made of black and white plastic.
  • The next two generations of Apple TV had an aluminum control that retains the spirit of the original. Few buttons and a crosshead to scroll through the menus.
  • From the fourth generation, we have a control of Apple TV in black, aluminum and with a glass trackpad. Very easy to distinguish from the rest of generations.
  • The control of the fifth generation Apple TV is identical to that of the fourth except for a slight detail: the Menu button has a white border in relief.

For all intents and purposes, there are two types of Apple TV controls no trackpad and trackpad. This is going to be the basic distinction to solve an Apple TV remote that does not respond.

How to fix an Apple TV remote

Given this introduction, we will begin by solving the problem in the first, second and third generation Apple TV. If your remote does not respond, follow these steps:

Step 1: Check that you still have a battery, you may need to replace it with a new one as they are not rechargeable.
Step 2: Press the Menu button and the button on the left in the circle or crosshead for at least 5 seconds. If you have the Apple TV on, an icon should appear on the screen. This means that the command has been unlinked (if it was not already).
Step 3: Now, press the Menu button and the button on the right in the circle or crosshead for at least 5 seconds. Now you should see a similar symbol but it indicates that both are now linked.
Step 4: You can disconnect the Apple TV from the power for a few seconds if the problem persists. Once all this is done, the problem should have disappeared.

For the fourth and fifth generation Apple TVs you will have to follow these other steps :

Step 1: Recharge your Apple TV remote with a Lightning cable. If you have not done so since you bought this device, it is possible that this fixes any problem, to do so leave it connected for an hour.
Step 2: Point the Apple TV remote at the device from at least 10 centimeters away. Press the Menu buttons and increase volume for five seconds.
Step 3: On your television, you may get a message that asks you to put the command on top of the Apple TV. Do it to complete the pairing.
Step 4: This should have solved the problem with the control of your AppleTV. If you continue to experience it, unplug the Apple TV from the power for a few seconds and then reconnect it. Now you can use your Apple TV normally.
