The confidence towards Facebook is not going through its best moment. During the past month of March, several media revealed the existence of a security breach that has leaked personal information of more than 50 million users. The data analysis company Cambridge Analytica, which worked in favor of Donald Trump’s campaign for the presidency, would have developed a system capable of extracting personal information without permission, which in turn served to elaborate a media strategy in favor of the tycoon.
And if this were not enough, now it is the social network itself that confirms a recent leak of personal data that affects another 30 million users, this time due to a vulnerability in the service itself that was present for several months. Because of all this, many users are deciding to end their relationship with Mark Zuckerberg’s social network. We explain how to completely eliminate our Facebook account.

Before proceeding to the total elimination of the account, we can make a backup of all the publications, conversations and multimedia content that we have shared through the social network. To do this, we must open Facebook from a web browser, not from the official application, and go to the Settings> General menu. Inside, click on the option Download a copy of your information. After entering your password as a security check, you will receive a notification in a few minutes next to a compressed file with everything published.

Once the backup copy is made (or not) we will proceed to the complete elimination of the profile. We must bear in mind that it is an irreversible action. If we are not entirely sure we can always opt for the deactivation of the account, which will make our account inaccessible to users, although at any time we can put it back online. To do this, we will go to the Settings> Security section and look for the Deactivate option at the bottom of the menu. Later, when we want to recover our account, we will find the option to reactivate in that same position.
But if we have things clear enough and we want to permanently delete our account, you will have to access the following URL and enter your password as a check. We repeat, this action is totally irreversible, and although we have made a backup as explained in the first point, there is no wizard to re-import the data, so we will have to upload everything again by hand.
