Ditto is a Pokémon who can transform — MOst important take on the appearance, attributes, and attacks of any other Pokémon. Although Ditto was missing from the original release of Pokémon Go Gen I, Ditto eventually found its way into the globe, hiding as Pidgy, Rattata, Zubat, and also Magikarp. In this article, we are going to talk about How to Catch Ditto Pokemon GO – List. Let’s begin!

With Gen II, Ditto also learned to hide as Sentra, Yanma, and Hoothoot, and Gen III as Zigzagoon and also Taillow. Then, whenever Shiny Magikarp appeared, Ditto Magikarp disappeared. When catching Ditto became a requirements for finding the mythical Mew, Whismur, Gulpin, Paras, and Remoraid were added to its repertoire as well, and for a brief time, Meltan. Pokémon Go often changes what Ditto will disguise itself as, so make sure to check back often for the latest list.

How to Locate Ditto in Pokemon GO

This is where it actually gets a bit complicated to find a Ditto. The Pokemon does not show up in the wild in an obvious manner actually. Rather than appearing itself, it will imitate specific Pokemon that you will need to catch and will only reveal itself when you have caught it. When you catch one of the listed Pokemon, then you will see “Oh?” over the PokeBall and you will then shown that the Pokemon was in fact a Ditto as well.

What is Ditto, and why we want it?

Ditto is one of the first generation Pokémon that was not available at the launch of the Pokémon Go game. It took a while for that to change actually. You want Ditto because the hiding mechanic is not just cool; you also need it to complete your Pokédex. Let’s see the official announcement:

Professor Willow has finally discovered Ditto! Trainers all over the world have been reporting its appearance.

Ditto has been known to disguise itself as other Pokémon, so keep an eye out, some Pokémon may actually be Ditto, and when you capture them, there’s a chance that Ditto will reveal itself. If you do encounter a Pokémon that is Ditto in disguise, the Pokémon in that specific encounter will also reveal itself as Ditto for other Trainers.

Ditto is also a unique Pokémon when you interact with them in Gyms. When training or battling at a Gym, Ditto will copy the appearance, types, and also moves of the first Pokémon it sees, and it will stay that way through the remainder of those Gym battles.

Need Ditto to find Mew?

Yes, as part of the spring 2018 research update, Pokémon Go actually added a Mythical Discovery quest. One of the tasks of the 5th part is to catch a Ditto. You need to do that before you can advance on and find — and then try to catch — Mew.

So Ditto hides as other Pokémon?

Yes! Ditto also can transform into other Pokémon, and, so far, he is only encountered in the wild in his transformed state. That also means that you can’t see Ditto on Nearby or Sightings, and you won’t know if he’s spawned right next to you until you catch him.

It’s only then you will be greeted with an “Oh?” rather than a “Gotcha!” and he will be revealed as Ditto. So, you need to catch ’em all. Literally. Because anyone of them could be Ditto actually.

In terms of game mechanics, how that seems to work is that anytime you catch what could be a Ditto in disguise, the Pokémon Go servers randomly determine if it is secretly a Ditto or not.

So, unless it is caught, it’s not a Ditto and can’t be detected as a Ditto at all. When it is caught and is determined to be a Ditto, anyone who catches the same Pokémon will also have it revealed to be a Ditto.

Which Gen I Pokémon can be Ditto?

Ditto hides as a base-level, very average Pokémon. In Gen I, that includes:

  • Weedle
  • Paras
  • Venonat
  • Voltorb

Which Gen II Pokémon can be Ditto?

Gen II only has five Ditto candidates right now, and one of them is typically far less average than all the others:

  • Hoothoot
  • Ledyba
  • Spinarak
  • Hoppip
  • Remoraid

Which Gen III Pokémon can be Ditto?

Ditto can emulate this handful from Gen III:

  • Whismur
  • Seedot
  • Skitty
  • Gulpin
  • Nummel

Which Gen IV and Gen V Pokémon can be Ditto?

Ditto has found disguising itself as these three Gen IV and Gen V Pokémon:

  • Bidoof
  • Venipede
  • Foongus

Pokemon Go Ditto catching tips

Catching a Ditto is all based on your luck actually. However, there are a few ways you can make sure you are maximizing your Pokemon Go time.

1. Use nearby radar

Always keep your eye out for the target Pokemon on your nearby list. However, they are all relatively common Pokemon, it is helpful to be able to see what’s where especially as more and much more Pokemon are added to the mix.

2. Catch Ditto with lures and incense

Thanks to confirmation from The Silph Road, you can catch a Ditto from both lures and incense as well. If you are staying in the one spot but do not want to miss out, pop on a lure and/or incense, target the list Pokemon and you might just find Ditto comes to you rather than the other way around.

3. Dittos are same for everyone

Unlike shiny Pokemon, that are entirely random and not shared by fellow players, we can always find Ditto inside a set Pokemon spawn. This means that if you are looking for a Ditto and a fellow player finds one, if you can get to that spot, then you will also get it too. If you are subscribed to a Pokemon Go Discord group, then ask players to keep you updated in your area but be fast because they won’t stay around long actually.

4. Crack a Lucky Egg

This won’t help your odds of catching Ditto but if you are heading out on a Ditto hunt then you will be earning stacks of XP as you check every Pokemon you encounter. Crack a Lucky Egg and you will double this XP for half an hour actually. The same goes for Star Pieces as well. It is now time to maximize the grind, folks.

Catch Ditto when I find it?

Since Ditto hides as common Pokémon, you can also catch it in the same way. Some of the common Pokémon are harder to catch than you’d expect — thanks, Pokémon Go! — especially if they are low stat (IV) and high level. That’s where the CP looks low, however, they are a huge pain to catch. Ditto also tends to fall into that category as well.

Where can I catch Ditto?

Ditto does not have nests or spawn points, per se, but the Pokémon that could be Ditto in disguise mostly do.

Some areas, that include PokéStops, Gyms, parking lots, malls as well, etc. have spawn points where multiple Pokémon appear all at once, and most of them are the really common kind. That is actually perfect for Ditto.

I also caught my first Ditto in the parking lot of a McDonald’s. I have caught others at spawn points on street corners and food courts as well.

Can everyone catches him?

If you catch a Gulpin and it turns out to be Ditto, then anyone else who catches that Gulpin will also see it transform into Ditto. In other words, when a Pokémon is revealed as Ditto, it’s consistently Ditto for everyone actually.

So, if you are playing as a family or are out in a group and also one of you catches Ditto, let everyone else know, and you will all get Ditto. Dividing and conquering is a great way to churn via a lot of low-level spawns at once as well.

Catch Ditto with the Pokémon Go Plus?

Yes, absolutely! It will then try to catch Ditto just like it would the Pokémon Ditto’s pretending to be. Catch that Pokémon, and you have caught Ditto easily. But remember, Pokémon Go Plus only throws standard Poké Balls, so there’s also a chance the Pokémon will run, and then you will never know whether or not it was a Ditto.

How does Ditto work in Gyms and Raids?

The Ditto only has one moveset: Transform and Struggle. Transform does zero damage but, Rather, immediately changes Ditto in the same Pokémon he’s fighting. That’s true whether he’s protecting a Gym or attacking it, for training or for taking down.

He also takes on the attributes of the Pokémon he is mimicking, though there are some reports that his exact CP will vary based on his level instead of the level of the Pokémon he’s copying. And, of course, a Ditto transforming into another Ditto stays the same as well.
