HMD Purchasing Director Juho Sarvikas announced in his Twitter account that the beta version of Android 8.1 Oreo is available for Nokia 2 – the budget smartphone of the previous year. It is expected that the update will not only bring new functions from the new version of the operating system but also increase the performance of the “green robot” due to the large work on optimization.
At the end of 2017, Juho Sarvikas said that Nokia 2 (produced with Android 7.1.1 Nougat “on board”) will miss Android 8.0 Oreo and will be updated immediately to version 8.1 Oreo. This is due to the filling of the gadget: the Snapdragon 212 processor installed in the smartphone is not suitable for Android 8.0 Oreo (according to the purchasing director of HMD). Then the representative of the Finnish company said that it was Android 8.1 Oreo that ideally suited budget devices because it contains “optimization and many improvements from Android Go.
Many took the words of Sarvikas as a hint that Nokia 2 will receive a light version of the “green robot”. However, in his announcement of the availability of the Android 8.1 Oreo beta for Nokia 2, Juho did not mention Android Go at all. Since the beta of the new version of the operating system was released only recently, the network does not yet have reviews about it from the owners of this smartphone.
