Create Screen Saver Shortcut: While going to walk away from your Mac for a minute, you want to begin your screen saver. You may also not want to lock your PC. Or put it to sleep but just to show your screen saver instead.

There are three easy ways to create a shortcut to begin your screen saver. Also, we’ll walk you through each one.

Create a screensaver shortcut with Hot Corners

You can also access your Hot Corners settings in a few spots in System Preferences. But for this, we’ll do it from the Screen Saver area.

So simply open System Preferences with the icon in your Dock. Alternatively, by tapping Apple icon > System Preferences from the menu bar. Then, follow these steps.

Step 1:

Choose Desktop & Screen Saver.

Step 2:

Tap the Screen Saver button and then tap the Hot Corners button.

Step 3:

Select which corner you like to use. Also, in the drop-down menu for it, choose Start Screen Saver.

Step 4:

Tap OK and then close the settings if you’d like.

Now check the Hot Corner by scrolling your cursor to it. You should view your screen saver start right up.

Create a screensaver shortcut with a Dock icon

Another amazing trick for beginning your screen saver is with an icon in your Dock.

Step 1:

Tap Go > Go to Folder from the Finder menu bar.

Step 2:

In the box, input the following location and tap Go.

/System/Library/CoreServices
Step 3:

When the folder opens, find ScreenSaverEngine and then drag it to your Dock.

Step 4:

Tap that icon you just added to your Dock and then your screen saver will pop right up!

Create a screensaver shortcut with your keyboard

If you like to use a keyboard shortcut to begin your screen saver, you can do this by creating an Automator service. Also, this shortcut takes more time to set up. Once done it’s there whenever you need it.

Create the service

Step 1:

Firstly, Open Automator from the Applications folder in your Dock or with Spotlight.

Step 2:

Tap New Document, choose Quick Action, and press Choose.

Step 3:

On the left, remember Actions are selected at the top and tap the utility item.

Step 4:

Directly to the right, find Start Screen Saver and then drag it to the Workflow window. You can also leave the settings at the top of the Workflow window as-is with Workflow receives set to Automatic (Nothing).

Step 5:

Tap File > Save from the menu bar. Also, give your workflow a name like “Start Screen Saver,” and press Save.

Now that you’ve created the service or Quick Action. Also, you’ll set up the keyboard shortcut for it.

Add the keyboard shortcut

Step 1:

Firstly, Open your System Preferences with the icon your Dock or Apple icon > System Preferences from the menu bar.

Step 2:

Choose Keyboard and tap the Shortcuts tab.

Step 3:

On the left, choose Services.

Step 4:

Now from under General, you should view the name of the Quick Action you just created. Remember that the service is checked. Then, tap to the right of the name where it says None and input the keyboard combination you like to use.

Note: If you choose a keyboard shortcut that’s already in use. Then the combination will not apply, so you’ll need to select a different one.
