In this blog, let’s elaborate on the common Mac or MacBook problems, how they occur and how they affect the system productivity in the long run. Simple DIY troubleshoots and tweaks can improve your system performance without spending money.

DIY Solutions to your MacBook problems

Consistent Slow Downs & Heat Ups

Slow and sluggish computer not only affects productivity, but it’s also annoying to stare at the screen to get the job done, not to mention when you seek some entertainment, like playing video games. The question is what causes such slowdowns and how to get rid of them while improving the functionality.

More often than not, these slowdowns occur due to outdated operating systems, insufficient storage space, a number of junk files, or cluttered desktops. Freeing up some space can resolve the problem, and your system might feel better.

Start by performing a quick scan of the files, folders, and applications to figure out what’s occupying more space. Delete redundant files, duplicate folders, and all the apps that you are not using anymore as they are taking up space, doing nothing at all.

Difficulty in Opening Apps & Programs

macOS, Windows, Android, iOS, and all other operating systems notify users whenever a new software update is available. It is necessary to install relevant updates to ensure the consistent functionality of the system. Sometimes, software updates bring along major security patches that protect the system and its data from unauthorized access and other threats. Installing these updates increases the life cycle of your system.

Moreover, updating your software ensures better compatibility with existing programs and applications. So it becomes even important to install available updates to make your system up and running with seamless integration with apps.

Faster Battery Drain & Slow Charging

Battery drainage is a common MacBook problem, which needs quick attention, else it will become worse. You need to check if your system is running quite too many startup items that might be responsible for the cause. If this is the case, you will have to deactivate a few startup items as they might be consuming a significant battery. In addition, higher visual effects also increase the load on GPU and memory while consuming a higher battery percentage. Also, make sure that you are not working on too many heavy-load or high-graphic applications simultaneously, as it will drain the battery considerably. To keep track of the energy consumption, go to the Applications folder, click Utilities, and then select Activity Monitor.

MacBook Sound Not Working

If you are among the users who find it difficult to work without music, then this problem is most annoying for you. Obviously, you must have checked the volume button to check if it’s on; you can also try tapping the F12 key to turn on the volume. Still not able to hear the sound, perform a quick hardware analysis by plugging in your microphones. If you see a red light on the headphone/line-out port, there must be something that is blocking the connection. Moreover, similar to any other MacBook issue troubleshoot, try to update the macOS with the latest version. There can be an issue with the audio drivers, so updating the software might resolve the problem.

Continuously Flickering MacBook Display

Is your MacBook screen flickering, and you are not able to do your work smoothly? Shut down and then restart your drive to determine if the problem continues anymore. If it does, try updating the macOS or other applications running on your system. If it doesn’t help, turn off the automatic graphics switching option by navigating to System Preferences, then click Energy Saver, and then unchecking Automatic Graphics Switching. Alternatively, Reset PRAM and SMC or update your macOS and other applications. Check if the socket that your MacBook or Mac is connected with is working properly by connecting your iPhone or another device. You may connect your system to another socket and check if your screen still flickers.
