Just read this article to know all about Can’t find the webcam in Device Manager on Windows. Let’s start!

Can’t find webcam in Device Manager on Windows
If you have connected a webcam to your Windows 10 PC, however, it won’t work or it doesn’t show up under Device Manager as well. Then there are a few things that you can try to fix it.
A webcam can also show up under different device groups in Device Manager as well. Now check the following groups in order to determine that it is not there.
- Imaging devices
- USB devices or USB device hub
If you guys have checked the above device groups in Device Manager. And you haven’t found your webcam, then you can also try the following.
How can you fix Imaging Devices missing from Device Manager?
Turn on webcam in Settings
Just open the Settings app and head to the Privacy group of settings. Choose the Camera tab. Your camera should also see a message ‘Camera access for this device is on’. If you guys don’t, then that means the camera is off. Tap on the Change button and then turn it On. Now restart your PC.
Windows 10 actually has a general troubleshooter for most components, hardware, and software as well. For a webcam, you guys should run the Hardware and Device troubleshooter. Just follow the steps below;
- Click on the Win+R keyboard shortcut in order to open the run box.
- In the run box, you have to enter the following and then tap Ener
msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
Permit the troubleshooter to run and detect problems with hardware. Accept and then apply any changes it recommends and also restart your PC for good measure.
Check for driver updates
If the webcam isn’t showing in Device Manager, then just check for driver updates might be a problem. However, you can always check for updates through Windows updates.
- First, open the Settings app and head to the Update & Security group of settings
- Go to the Windows Updates tab and then tap on the Check for updates button
If you’ve installed Windows 10 fresh, then it’s probably a good idea in order to wait a few hours. Some drivers that are installed are generic or also the earliest version that Windows 10 is able to find. Over time, they will update on their own as well. This most often happens along with audio drivers, however, might be the case also with the webcam as well.
Just look online for a driver update and install it manually. Now check the website for your laptop or desktop manufacturer and also install the recommended drivers for the webcam.
Scan for devices
It is also possible that Windows 10 hasn’t been able to detect the webcam after a driver update as well. Then open Device Manager and press the ‘Scan for hardware changes’ button. If your webcam shows up, then Windows 10 will likely also install drivers. Now restart your PC.
Manually add webcam | can’t find webcam
You guys can manually add a webcam to Device Manager. Now open Device Manager and just follow the steps below;
- In Device Manager, you have to go to Actions > Add legacy hardware
- In the window that opens, just tap on Next.
- Choose ‘Install the hardware that I manually choose from a list (Advanced)‘
- From the list of device types, and choose ‘Cameras‘ and click Next.
- If you guys have a driver for the webcam, you can tap on ‘Have disk‘ and choose it. If not, proceed to the next step.
- You will see a list of devices that you can also install. If you don’t see a device, then head back to the 4th step, and rather than ‘Cameras‘ select ‘Imaging devices‘.
- Choose the device from the list and tap on Next.
- When the driver has been installed, then restart your PC.
Install manufacturer’s proprietary webcam app
This problem basically appears to be somewhat common in Dell systems and Dell actually has a webcam app available to download. It isn’t needed to use the webcam, however, installing it might get the webcam in order to show up.
Then visit the dell drivers page and enter your system model or service tag and find the app. Make sure you restart your PC after you install it. Although we’ve mentioned Dell here specifically, a lot of other manufacturers have just the same apps. Look for the app on the support page for your system and then install it.
Some integrated webcams can also be disabled from the BIOS. If you guys recently updated BIOS, then it is possible that the webcam has disabled actually. Access the BIOS on your system and look for anything that is related to hardware, or hardware configuration as well.
If your webcam is listed there, then just make sure it is enabled and/or functioning as well. Your BIOS should provide you some sort of indication regarding this. If you guys don’t see the webcam in BIOS either, then try the last step below.
If you guys have recently had your PC repaired or dropped, it is also possible that your webcam has disconnected physically actually. Have it has taken in for a check again or if you are skilled with hardware. Then you can open your system up yourself and also make sure that everything is still plugged in.
